Joyeux Noël!

Card by Claudine Gévry
Nabbed from La Girafe Timbrée.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!
Loads of fun and surprises
All in excess, of course!
;-)

On another note... I was checking into downloading a client to post on my LJ and found out there's three out there. Anyone using them and can recommend which to go for? Semagic, LochJournal or LJ.NET?

Cheers.

Aches and pains

Back pain. Thoracic and lombar. Over the weekend, my teeth joined the party. It's not an acute pain and I can't pinpoint where exactly but it's basically all the right side of my face, including my ear. Really nice and refreshing addition to the repertoire.

Fell out with my younger brother. What an ass this one turned out to be. I guess there's one perk from living on the other side of the planet, you don't have to put up with his shit if you ignore his e-mails. And you don't have to see his mug and play nice over the Holidays.

Lily had her shots last week, finally. She was nearly five weeks overdue with all the virii, rashes, fevers and what-not befalling her in November. So what do we have to look forward to in the next seven days? A grumpy bub. She might have (more) fever, swollen glands, aches in her legs, and be generally miserable. Yay! Just what I needed.

And just as I'm writing this, what does my cat Beamish go and do? Throw up on my bed, that's what. Why not? I just washed and changed the fucker last night.

There's more but I really don't feel like getting into it at this stage. Just know, my lovely flist, that if I go quiet it's probably because I'm nursing my worries with a bottle of vodka, a big fat splif and a gun. If I make it look like an accident, then that's our dough woes sorted.

Just because life shouldn't be that tedious, here's a couple of caps from the latest "300" trailer:

Fitting in

You know, it hit me again a few days ago. Do we ever? Fit in, I mean. We've been here now for over five years and though it does feel like home, there are some things that we're just not in sync with.

Christmas is one of them. I never feel it coming. On this side of the globe it's the back end of Spring, Summer is just around the corner, no matter how many Christmas decorations are thrown at us, I just don't feel it's the Holiday Season approaching. I'm just too used to the wintery feeling and I guess I need it to sense the holiday spirit. You know, leaves falling, life shutting down for the long cold months, snowstorms, icicles and frosted windows. The fresh and crisp air and the stillness of a snowy landscape. The sound and smell of a burning fire in the hearth. Then again, I get to be in the pool or the ocean in November, getting a suntan, surrounded by flowers and colourful birds.

Another thing struck me again... we had a couple of really hot days and someone said, with relief in their voice, that we only needed to hang on a little longer because soon a southerly wind would come. And I was like, how's that gonna make anything more bearable? Any hotter and we'll melt. Of course, in the next second I remembered that, Down Under, the southerlies are freezing cold. Can't really get any closer to Antarctica than that...

On another note, I've done all my xmas cards last night. Finished around 2h30am. Yep, crazy me.

What kind of bad karma can a 10-month old have?

I can't bear to think about it, yet, like most mothers do, I suppose, I can't stop my mind freaking out with what if? scenarios or trying to put myself in those poor parents' boots...

My muse is...
Melpomene

Melpomene is the patron goddess of tragedy. Melpomene is often represented by a tragic mask and is sometimes depicted with a crown of cypress leaves and a club. Despite her tragic side, Melpomene means "The Songstress" because her chanting and singing inspires listeners. Read more...

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last month I set 's puppy on fire (-66 points). Last Monday I gave a Dutch Oven (-10 points). In May I ruled Asscrackistan as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last Thursday I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). In September I gave a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points).

Overall, I've been nice (598 points). For Christmas I deserve a Lego set!

Wallpapers

Made these a couple of months ago for a 2007 Ronon Dex calendar project over at and its Yahoo group. It was a team effort and I think we came out with twelve hot months! Thought I'd post my submissions here just because I so very rarely have a chance to do anything "artistic" nowadays...

On another note, Lily is sick. Started with teething, a low grade fever and a rash on her feet and legs on Tuesday. We all put it down to the teething. Carried on with the rash and the fever on Wednesday (and looking a little puffy as well), by which time I thought best to go see our GP. The red spots had spread to her torso and a bit along her arms. Unlucky for us, the doc wasn't in but could see us the following morning. Since Lily was still eating and drinking, keeping the grub down, we waited til then. Thursday turned out to be hectic. She woke up with her face covered in spots though the fever had gone. They were now all over, head to toe. A bit excessive for teething rash, yeah? Our GP thought so too. She sent us to see a paediatrician. He didn't like the spots either and though they could look like roseola, she presents atypically for it. And because she's got some petechiae, he's fearing a meningococcal infection. So he sent us to the hospital for blood tests and some IV antibiotics. They didn't admit Lily but we were told to keep an eye on her. Hopefully it's viral and will run its course and if it's bacterial, with the antibiotics, we should be covered.

Blood count came back normal today and so far so are the cultures. But that can take up to three days for growth to show. Lily was looking good this morning, still covered in spots but she was smiling, playing and eating with appetite. This afternoon, things turned. The light fever came back and she hasn't been eating as much. Her face is really red and hot. Even now. She's been sleepy and generally looking more tired. She still played this evening before bed but you can tell she's not her usual self. So instead of rushing her to the ER, we're keeping her here, monitoring her temperature. If it rises or she starts to show other symptoms, we'll take her in right away. So I have first watch tonight. Even though I'm dead tired, this gives me a chance to update the LJ...

Martouf baby

Been meaning to mention this for a while and there's always something getting in the way. Well, not this morning, damn it. For the fans of JR Bourne (Martouf on Stargate SG-1), GateWorld presently features a lovely 12-minute interview with the man.

Hot

By the gods, it was hot today, man!

On another note...

I have this love and hate [read indifference] relationship with the show but I gotta admit I just love this promo!

You can download the original here. While you're at YouTube, check out the Tango de Lost vid. It's a variation on the same footage.
