A hell of a way to start her second year

It's been a while...

On another note, Lily is sick. Started with teething, a low grade fever and a rash on her feet and legs on Tuesday. We all put it down to the teething. Carried on with the rash and the fever on Wednesday (and looking a little puffy as well), by which time I thought best to go see our GP. The red spots had spread to her torso and a bit along her arms. Unlucky for us, the doc wasn't in but could see us the following morning. Since Lily was still eating and drinking, keeping the grub down, we waited til then. Thursday turned out to be hectic. She woke up with her face covered in spots though the fever had gone. They were now all over, head to toe. A bit excessive for teething rash, yeah? Our GP thought so too. She sent us to see a paediatrician. He didn't like the spots either and though they could look like roseola, she presents atypically for it. And because she's got some petechiae, he's fearing a meningococcal infection. So he sent us to the hospital for blood tests and some IV antibiotics. They didn't admit Lily but we were told to keep an eye on her. Hopefully it's viral and will run its course and if it's bacterial, with the antibiotics, we should be covered.

Blood count came back normal today and so far so are the cultures. But that can take up to three days for growth to show. Lily was looking good this morning, still covered in spots but she was smiling, playing and eating with appetite. This afternoon, things turned. The light fever came back and she hasn't been eating as much. Her face is really red and hot. Even now. She's been sleepy and generally looking more tired. She still played this evening before bed but you can tell she's not her usual self. So instead of rushing her to the ER, we're keeping her here, monitoring her temperature. If it rises or she starts to show other symptoms, we'll take her in right away. So I have first watch tonight. Even though I'm dead tired, this gives me a chance to update the LJ...
