A Scanner Darkly

I forgot to mention... last night I finally got around to watch A Scanner Darkly, the movie adaptation of Philip K Dick's novel.

Wow.

On an animation standpoint, it's pretty amazing work but you don't even have to get into that to appreciate the movie. The tale is disturbing and even though it stems from a world of paranoia from the Nixon years, you can very much identify with it now, in our days of Big Brother and cameras all over our streets. The cast is also amazing. Rory Cochrane as Freck, Robert Downey Jr as Barris... hell, they were all good, even Keanu. ;) But it's not all gloom and doom; there's humour in it and it's pretty twisted.

If you do rent out or buy the DVD, take the time to watch the extras.

On this note, I need to go get dinner ready and start packing. We're off to the back of Burke for the weekend!
