Specialists and their exorbitant fees

Saw the GP today. She says that 'degenerative change' means arthritis. So I've got a beginning of that in the lower back (you know, the dimples? that's the sacroiliac joint) and also a mild case of it in the upper back (at the level of the thoracic vertebrae 5 and 6 - which is pretty much between the shoulder blades). And that is exactly where I have the worst pain and where it all starts from when it jams and tenses up and screws with my diaphragm and stomach.

But apparently the level of arthritis there isn't sufficient to cause these spasm attacks...

So she's referred me to a orthopaedic surgeon. I see him in a week on Friday. Not too bad. I thought I'd get months to wait.

Oh, and joy. He's not covered by Medicare nor the private health cover.
