Mega Catch Up Post

It's a little after 3.33am and I can't sleep. Instead of carrying tossing and turning, and undoubtedly ruining hubby's night as well, I thought I better get up and do that damn post I've been wanting to do since last week...

So we're back from the trip. While we all were looking forward to home to varying degrees, we're now probably feeling a bit down to be back actually. And it's not just us, adults. Lily isn't quite herself and will bawl her eyes out for little nothings, out of the blue. She's also maybe working on those back molars... hard to say.

I can't remember if I said this or not but the trip to Hong Kong was a real treat. We had a really nice time there, if short. So many things to see. It's a buzzing place. We crashed the first day after an overnight flight where we didn't sleep a wink, thanks to Lily, but the other two days were full busy getting around and about. I will try and post some pix soon.

Went to the theatre last Saturday to see Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman, as produced by Company B here in Sydney. We got front row seats and got to admire Marton Csokas as Tupolski up close. A story both chilling and dark, and... well, funny.

(Note: Looking around for a pic to put up I found out that Dr Who's David Tennant had been in that very same play a few years back, portraying poor Katurian while Jim Broadbent filled Tupolski's boots. Would have been interesting to see that cast, that's for sure. Oh, and McDonagh is the same bloke who brought us In Bruges...)

Anyone looking forward to The Dark Knight? I think it opens here tomorrow, for once not far behind the States. :) Might try and go see it this weekend. Not sure with Lily being odd and all.

Speaking of movies, I caught some on the many flights, movies and TV series as well.

We didn't really watch a lot on our way towards the UK, whether to LA or Montreal. But we did see Jumper. A little bit on the disappointing side, no? I thought it had a wondrous premise the first time I saw the trailer. The idea really blew me away. But sadly they didn't deliver. And I'm sure the 'plane' version didn't help things any.

Next was Untraceable. I think sometime between England or Germany or on our way to Hong Kong. Even for a 'edited for a plane' version, it was damn explicit and gruesome, let me tell you. Still, it was kind of interesting. But it makes me wonder how damn bright it is to make movies such as these. Will it spawn the very types of killers it's warning us about?

There was also a movie I stayed up til 2am to finish while I was at my inlaws... The Shipping News. Is there anything more depressing thant that movie? I frankly have nothing nice to say about it., even if I love to watch Dame Judi onscreen. Even the cinematography was sad... yeah, yeah, I know, I'm sure that's what they were after but, sheesh!

On our way back, I think that might have been between Singapore and Sydney, they had a nice personal entertainment thing going on so I caught up on some sample episodes of series I had never watched before. Namely, Ashes to Ashes, Primeval and Bionic Woman.

I'm sure having seen Life on Mars helps you grasp Ashes to Ashes' pilot episode. Since I haven't, except for very short bits here and there, I was a little lost. But it was still interesting, and there's a funny chemistry there between the cast. DCI Gene Hunt is a sight to behold... but I'm sure I'd miss Sam Tyler. Dunno. Might catch up with this one if I ever find the time to watch Life on Mars first.

Primeval... I dunno why that is but the Brits cannot pull off scifi shows convincingly. Dr Who fans, hold your fire. It's true; the special effects suck. Big time. Look at Torchwood. So, meh for Primeval. Didn't grab me. And the bloke I could have settled into oggling dies at the end of the 2nd season, I'm told.

Jamie Sommers. Did she need revisiting? You know, from just one episode - and not the pilot at that - I can say that I was surprised. It wasn't so bad. Not good. Not original. But not total crap either. Not something I'd tune in for - no, not even for Starbuck-come-Bionic Sister - but yeah... for teenagers, I guess. And Miguel Ferrer is always nice to see.

Oh, and I did another meme...
