Back from a short holidays in the pretty Blue Mountains. Was nice to leave the city, as much as I love Sydney.

Lily loved being out and about and my fears she would be hard to settle away from home were - of course - unfounded. She was great and slept very well. Could be the fresh mountain air, the fact it wasn't so stinking hot up there, or because her parents aimed to kick back and relax... :)

Not much of a birthday when you spend it packing and then stuck in the car driving up the M4, but then what's in a birthday anyway? A record low in number of cards this year too. Oh, well. Shouldn't knock it. I'm middle-aged now and that's when a woman should stop counting the years, right? The in-laws did treat me to a nice meal out in Katoomba. Very enjoyable and tasty food.

Got a nice surprise this morning. , you simply rock. You're the only one who gave me something for me this year, would you believe. The only one. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I even watched the tape this morning. I refused to get stuck into anything else until I was done, too. Cheers.

, I'm sorry for your loss. I truly, deeply feel for his wife and children. I hope Boz isn't taking it too hard. I won't even ask what the latest wankfest was about because, honestly, in the face of this, it means not a goddamn thing.

I'll try and catch up with the flist entries as soon as I can. Four days offline is four days offline, and it's the in-laws' last week (on top of having a lot of laundry to catch up on since this little trip was 'bring your own linen') so the next few days should be pretty full on.

Oh, and also had a message from my doctor wanting me to make an appointment with her this week. I wonder what's wrong with me that I have my own GP chasing me...
Anyway, better go feed that baby of mine.

Two weeks is still a long way away

Peace, man...

What to say? It's driving me insane, slowly but surely. Anyway, moving along...

It was Lily's christening on Sunday. Friends of ours have a son three weeks older than Lily so we decided to crash Owen's christening and do a double-whammy. :) Worked rather well. Big pow-wow, good food, great company and thoughtful gifts. Everybody had a good time despite the heat. Shouldn't complain when it's blue skies and you're having a spit roast on your back lawn anyway. :) Big thanks to E and D for all the organizing. I wish my mom and brothers had been there though. Oh well.

Next on the agenda is a trip to the Blue Mountains starting this Thursday. I'll be AWOL for four days so don't look for me. I hope Lily will cope with being away from home for that long. I hope her mother will cope with the in-laws for that long with nowhere to run. ::rolls eyes::

Take care, people. I'll see you on the flip side.

P.S. Saw Syriana tonight. And the US wonder why they're dealing with acts of terrorism?

My guess is tact runs in that family...

We won some tix for a rugby match. Right now with the in-laws around, we're six. We have four tickets. So there goes my sister-in-law, "Oh, why don't all four of us go and make a family day of it?" Of course, the four being her, my husband and their parents.

Nine years of marriage and a baby later, I guess Lily and I aren't part of the family yet.

Going out

Fifth evening out. Isn't that amazing when you can count on one hand how many nights you've been out in the last three and half months?

Amazingly sad, I say.

Going to a little hip Spanish resto on Pitt Street called Encasa. An ex-colleague of mine is taking off, backpacking his little butt around the world. This is his goodbye and thanks for all the fish do. Should be nice. Nice to be out as a couple again, nice to see other people and have grown up conversations.

Went to see Munich the other day. Brilliant film. Went to see Underworld Evolution last week. Was as bad as Munich was good. Can't believe I wasted not only money on this but one of my rare evenings out. Oh, well. Live and learn.

Btw, we've been having a break since last Thursday. In-laws have gone to Tassie. Coming back tomorrow night. Why you might ask? Well because it's Valentine's Day, of course. We need to pick them up at the airport at 20h30 just to make sure we don't have a fucking evening to ourselves. ::rolls eyes::

Anyway, playing catch up reading my flist entries. Sorry I'm not around more but I can't seem to juggle everything all that well at the mo.

In RL...

The in-laws have been here over two weeks now, with my sister-in-law joining us last week. Not so bad so far, I suppose. First grand-child for them so a lot of awwws and attention are to be expected. First niece too. And over all, I can say that no one is being pushy as to how hubby and I should be doing things. That's good because I wouldn't put up with it.

So on this positive note, I caught my mother-in-law telling my three month old daughter to 'shut up'.

Not once, not twice but thrice. And my girl wasn't even whining or crying, she was playing. This from a woman I can't say shit, crap, hell or liar in front of because of her bloody proper British upbringing. Now, I don't know about you, but hell would have had to freeze over for me to let it pass. Unless you're babysitting Lil'Byte and she's been screaming her ass off non-stop for three hours no matter what you try and do to make her feel better you have no business telling that child to 'shut up'. And when she's playing, gurgling and making baby sounds? You don't go and shush her. You coo back, ffs.

And it gets better. We've been looking at old photographs. You know, trying to see who Lily's taking from... so looking at younger versions of me (primary, high school and college), wouldn't you know, my mother-in-law, bless her heart, went and said, "You look really thin there. And in that one too. Oh, so you weren't always so fat. So what happened?"

I ask you, what was I suppose to answer to that?

And then the following evening (or close enough), we're looking at photos from when hubby and I met whilst travelling around Australia (so go back over a decade). She double-checks the pictures in front of her and then looks me up and down, and like my own private Prince Philip incarnation, she comments, "Oh, my. You've really put on a lot of weight since then."

As Izzard would say, OFF THE MAP.

That woman is off the fucking map.
